Mykola Tomenko: The Moratorium on Awards to the Politicians and State Officials should have been implemented at least for 1 Year Term
In the course of the scrutiny of the bill on amendments to the Law of Ukraine "On State Awards of Ukraine" (regarding the provision of the publicity in the system of the state awards of Ukraine) in the course of the afternoon plenary meeting, Mykola Tomenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine suggested "implementation of the moratorium on awards to the politicians and state officials at least for 1 year term."
"At the present moment, according to the authorities standards Leonid Chernovetskii is the most intelligent and wise as he used to be awarded with "The Order of Yaroslav Mudrii" and the most heroic ones are the private businessmen, making profit exclusively for themselves and their families", M. Tomenko emphasised.
M. Tomenko stated that he was proud of the fact he has no state awards, presented by the Presidents of Ukraine as he is convinced that the state men or politicians are obliged to work first of all, and later in the end of their political career they might have the claims on certain awards.
The Deputy Chairman emphasised that the moratorium on awards to the politicians and state officials should has been implemented at least for 1 year term, though giving comments after voting (the Parliament failed to uphold the bill), he stated that "no desire on the part of Party of Regions to vote for the bill proved that the tradition of awards laid by L. Kuchma and V. Yushchenko would be flourishing during the term of V. Yanukovych."
